Structured Grid is an early ceramic series consisting of three handmade vases constructed from slab clay. Each object is designed from a 2D grid, with a consistent set of rules applied across the series. This gives the works a shared visual language, while allowing each vase to develop its own individual form.

The slabs are assembled while the clay is still partially wet. During this process, the material begins to create its own curvature, shifting the strict logic of the grid into a more organic and unpredictable body. As the surfaces bend and proportions change, the hand and the behaviour of the clay become visible within the structure.

After construction, the objects are carved by hand, adding another layer of texture and depth to the surface. The grid is then drawn back onto the finished form with engobe pencil before glazing. This makes the grid both a starting point and a final trace: a system that guides the object, but also responds to the shape that the material has created.

The drawn lines do not function as decoration alone. They describe the body of the vase, make its volume readable and reveal the tension between control and movement. A grid usually suggests order, repetition and precision, but here it becomes softer, more tactile and slightly unstable.
