Alcor is a ceramic 3D-printed bowl form within the ARTEFACTS series. The object is printed standing upright, but is used in a horizontal orientation. This shifts the logic of the printing process: what is built vertically during production is ultimately read as a horizontal, carrying form.

One side of the object remains closed, while the other side is left open. Through this opening, the inner space becomes visible and a tension emerges between bowl, hollow and ceramic volume. The visible layer structure follows the original printing direction and makes the reversal from production to use part of the object.

The name Alcor is derived from alcova, a word that refers to a niche, alcove or sheltered interior space. The name carries the idea of a form that is not fully open, but partially reveals a contained inner space.

Each version is unique because of the production method. Pressure, drying, firing and material behaviour leave subtle differences in every object.
