Engaging in the dialogue between digital and physical craftsmanship, Ralf Gloudemans explores the moment where digital gestures become tangible matter. In MONOLITH, he reflects on virtual sculpting not as a tool, but as an autonomous craft, where the process of making is embedded within the form itself.
The act of sculpting in virtual reality becomes a craft of its own. Starting from an empty digital space, a simple geometric block serves as the raw material. Through carving, stretching and reshaping, the form evolves over time, capturing the transition from structure to gesture.
MONOLITH embodies that process: a frozen trace of digital handwork, revealing the passage from virtual block to expressive physical object. The series can move between sculptural objects, functional forms and light objects, but always starts from the same question: how can a digital gesture become physically present without losing the trace of its making?
