Caldra is a slip-casted vase within the Domestic Monuments series. The form starts from the recognisable typology of a vase, but through its wide opening, faceted skin and powerful belly it is pulled away from the realm of pure use.

The object stands as a small monument in the space: a hollow body that carries, opens and holds presence. Digital traces remain visible in the ceramic surface, while the colour finish strengthens the facets, shadows and curves of the form.

The name Caldra is derived from caldera, a word that refers to a large bowl-shaped hollow or volcanic crater. In this name, several qualities of the vase come together: the wide open neck, the hollow body, the weighted belly and the suggestion of an object that seems to have been formed from within.

Subtle differences in glaze, colour transition and surface are part of the process.
